Los Angeles
Los Angeles county passed Ordinance 183893 and Ordinance 184081, to reduce structural deficiencies by the most economical and feasible method. Currently these buildings are at risk of structural failure during earthquakes.
You have two years from the 'order to comply date' to sign a contract for structural engineering for soft-story retrofitting and submit plans to the city.
Buildings that are most vulnerable have been identified with the following criteria:
- Consist of 2 or more stories wood frame construction
- Built under building code standards enacted before January 1, 1978
- Contains ground floor parking or other similar open floor space.

You have two years from the date shown to SUBMIT engineering plans to the city for construction or prove that it is not a Soft-story condition.
West Hollywood
On April 17, 2017 The City council of West Hollywood adopted the Mandatory Ordinance for soft-story retrofitting for two types of existing buildings.
- Mandatory Strengthening Provisions for Existing Wood-Frame Buildings with Soft, Weak, or Open-Front Walls.

The City Council of Santa Monica passed their ordinance in March 2017 nearly 2,000 buildings in this area have been identified as potentially vulnerable and have been notified to comply.
